Stilnovo presents Torino, the new reading lamp, in aluminum and customisable, designed by Japanese designer Shigeaki Asahara. A lamp that reflects the history of its creator, having its roots in Japan but having its heart in Turin, as its name echoes. Two souls, on the one hand, the technical one originating in Japan to design a studio lamp appropriate for different contexts and uses, from an architectural studio to a domestic environment, on the other hand, the aesthetic and stylistic one that draws inspiration from the historical centre of Turin, in particular Piazza Vittorio Veneto. “Here,” says Asahara, “are streets that are orthogonal to each other, with simple lines and austere decorations, and that culminates beyond the Po, in the Hadrianesque style of the Gran Madre, rational in its balance between symmetries and asymmetries. Stilnovo was finally the bridge that bridged my history aesthetics with the technical one, allowing Turin to come to light.”

A versatile lamp, designed for different environments, from offices to residential spaces, and designed to illuminate tables, desks, shelves, and wall applications. Torino comprises an articulated arm and a rotatable head with a touch dimmer that can be mounted as required on a solid round base, a clamp, or a wall bracket. The minimalist and elegant handle allows the arm to be extended and the head of the lamp to be rotated easily and precisely. lamp head easily and with extreme precision. Similarly, the position of the touch dimmer is designed to ensure maximum ergonomics in use. finger while continuing to hold the handle. Designed as a desk lamp, Torino manages to evenly distribute a soft and extremely comfortable light soft and extremely comfortable light, free of discolouration or shadows.

Stilnovo was born in Milan, in 1946, from the genius of Bruno Gatta, as Italy was beginning to face the many challenges of post-war reconstruction. From the years of reconstruction and economic boom, it proved to be a concrete company and, at the same time a hotbed of ideas and a reference point in the design scene, thanks to the production of memorable lamps designed by the great Italian masters of design: from the Castiglioni brothers to Joe Colombo, from Gae Aulenti to Ettore Sottsass, to De Pas-D’Urbino-Lomazzi, Danilo and Corrado Aroldi and Macchi Cassia, to name but a few.

After decades of success, confirmed by the many lamps exhibited in the world’s most important design museums, Stilnovo interrupted its journey at the end of the 1980s, only to over thirty years later–in 2019–thanks to the acquisition of Linea Light Group: a new opportunity to continue a glorious story that began over 70 years ago. a glorious story that began over 70 years ago, through the accurate re-edition of the great lamps of the past and increasingly intense collaboration with contemporary and emerging designers, thus forming a high-quality offer able to combine the history of design and the modernity of technological lighting solutions, creating new value.
