Tobias Rei is a 23 years old photographer from Spain. Since he was a child he knew that when he grew up he wanted to try to make a living from photography.
He studied at school filled him and caught his attention, he only captured photos, it was his way of expressing himself and understanding what he felt. So when Tobias finished his studies he decided to move to Madrid to start studying photography more seriously and try to dedicate himself to it.
The experience in Madrid has had many changes, but photography has always been his goal. After finishing two years of photography he had to work another two years in something different to be able to save and think about a future only dedicated to his passion.
About ‘The W Series’ – words by Tobias Rei:
The W Series was born at a time in my life when there were only dark highlights. I was doing this series without being very aware of it, I was taking refuge in places of my childhood that brought me a kind of peace.
These specific captured places like houses, several beach places, some of my closest friends … all of this was part of this process of finding myself and the way to express it was creating strong contrasts of darkness (the harsh white and black in the photos) and what was beginning to give me light (the small points of light in the photos).
The beauty of The W Series has been how the passage of time and looking at the photos from time to time have managed to create another concept in me of what darkness is and that we can always find those points of light even if we never hope to find them.
