This is an unpublished project premiered today on C41 Magazine.

Stefano Galli was born in Modena Italy in 1981.

After graduating with a degree in Cinema & Media from the University of Turin, Stefano moved to Copenhagen where he worked at Lars Von Trier’s  Zentropa Studios for 5 years.

Currently residing in Los Angeles California, his work focuses on the interaction and coexistence of people living in segregated and remote communities on the outskirts of big cities – mainly in small towns scattered along the vast and empty territory of the Mojave Desert between California, Nevada and Arizona as well as in other secluded and faraway realities of the United States.

Employing both still and moving images strictly on film celluloid, Stefano has been documenting life in his adoptive country as it unfolds before his incisive, wry outsiders eye.

Showcased here is a selection of portraits and landscapes from his ongoing research.

About ‘Selected-Portraits’ – words by Stefano Galli:

“What really fascinates and interests me the most from my American sojourn is the discovery and the encounters with people that somehow manage to get through in rough and isolated environments far-off from the comforts and advantages that big cities might offer.

Life in the USA can be very tough and rugged, especially if compared with the society where I come from and grew up in.

The boundless territory of the American West and the often brutal and ruthless weather conditions make it into the perfect scenario for a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has somehow managed to survive and carries on with their daily routines.

Portrayed here are the characters of this world, addressing the camera directly, standing straight as proud survivor of a sour-world that has long forgotten about them.”
