Pat Martin says about himself:
“Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, I’ve been shooting for about 10 years. The last two have primarily been about photographing my family, and diving deeper into personal work. I use the camera as a tool to understand my surroundings and those closest to me, as well an excuse to hold on to a memory. The images here are a few of my favorites from the last 18 months.”
A few years ago, after a health scare with my mother, photographing my family and our time together became inevitably important. Not just to remember, but also as a form of therapy to bridge the gaps in our relationships.
The project with my family continues to change but the simple idea of a family archive stays the same. – I shoot medium format film and hand print the images in a color darkroom. The process can be slow, but I enjoy the physical aspect, as well as the quality of color printing by hand produces.
