Marbledworks is a German design studio, founded by Maximilian Huber and Dominic Kim. At Marbledworks they redefine stonemasonry, challenging conventional typologies. Their mindset reflects their identity, and how they understand and meet the world around. “When we started, we wanted to learn everything about stone: from sourcing and transport to tooling and manufacturing.” they assert. “We believe that in this day and age you have to be very agile and adapt to changing conditions. That’s why we don’t rely on formal concepts, but try to work with all this knowledge and the circumstances. We are extending this methodology to other materials and their combination with stone is what interests us, so we want to develop our craft as much as possible before we start working on something. At the same time, we both have very intuitive personalities and this is reflected in our design choices.”

Huber’s finance and Kim’s architecture expertise shape their approach to conception, pricing, production, and project management. Their professional experiences provide a unique perspective, allowing them to create out-of-context objects with a distinctive approach.

Marbledworks contributes with highly specific designs, enriched by storytelling and a personal connection to collectors. Their transparent approach to design and production, combined with a desire to establish a distinct design language, positions them uniquely in the evolving landscape of design. ‘Marbledworks’ was chosen for its directness and unexpected visual appeal. The name reflects both the unique qualities of marble and their diverse output, embodying simplicity and intrigue. Their collections explore themes through sculptural works and modular designs, showcasing their dual focus on handcrafted and industrially produced pieces.

The history of Marbledworks is firmly rooted in the natural stone industry. The founders dedicated themselves to learning everything there is to know about stone—from sourcing and transport to tooling and manufacturing. This commitment to understanding their core material has given Marbledworks a unique advantage. Rather than simply working with stone, they have cultivated an intimate relationship with it, allowing them to innovate while respecting its natural beauty.

While stone remains central, the studio is constantly expanding its expertise to include other materials, exploring how they can be combined with stone to create new forms of expression. This constant curiosity drives their development of unique, thoughtful designs.

The team ensures that each stage of the process is deliberate and sustainable. While many in the industry focus on aesthetics or speed, Marbledworks takes a slower, more deliberate approach. For them, design is not only about the end product, but also about how that product is created. Marbledworks avoids the rush to follow trends, focusing instead on creating objects that are not only beautiful but practical, durable, and environmentally conscious. Drawing on their expertise in architecture, design, and finance, the team ensures that each creation is meticulously crafted, taking into account both form and function.
