About ‘MSL’ – words by Jeroen van de Gruiter:
“MSL” is a small photo-series highlighting details on the vintage Mercedes ‘super light’ or ‘sport leicht’ series produced by Mercedes-Benz between 1970-1985 roughly. What fascinates me about this series are the subtle colour-ways of the lacquers during that period. The balance between depth of colour combined with the strong lines of the general design and slightly rounded corners where the bend metal parts come together are very beautiful to me. The cars often had quite a rectangular physique looking at them from a distance but closer up they have a lot more going on. The graphic images highlight a few of these moments in detail, focussing both on reflections and transparencies. The “MSL” series is my first ever series on a specific topic. The cars captured in this series where all spotted at a parking lot of a vintage import dealer here in Rotterdam.
