Hiro Tanaka was born in Japan, lived in United States for several years. an interesting coincidence led him to start taking photographs – after accidentally winning a free trip to the US through raffles at a shopping mall in Tokyo, Tanaka started travelling with punk bands in the United States and Europe, while documenting the tour life.
He has won Cosmos Arles PDF Award (France), TPD Book Award (Italy) etc., has had received several grants, participated in residency programs in US, Europe and Asia. Published five monographs.
