About Phantom Limb – words by Hailey Heaton:
Studying the entanglements of femininity, intimacy and identity in my work, the photographs depicted are a part of a large ongoing series titled, ‘Phantom Limb’. Merging reality and fiction, I attempt to create a feeling of longing through negative space and liminal details. Growing up in an emotionally absent home and being forced to spend most of my time by myself as a child, there was never a safe space to process my emotions. This ambiguous imagery is used as an attempt at picking away the complicated feelings of having a happy childhood simultaneously filled with abuse in a suburban America.
