We’re surrounded by people on the street and at work. We hear our neighbours the minute we get home. The endless stream of pop-up notifications on our phones are a constant reminder of a presence that isn’t our own. We’re rarely alone anymore.
There is much more “activity” that takes place between just us and our surroundings. These are the moments we need to pause, think and be — rather than merely do. They are opportunities to contemplate what we do and why we do it, to make sense of our purpose and existence.
“Alone” is a visual essay by Christopher Lim that looks at peaceful moments where humans and objects alike indulge in the tranquillity of being alone.
